Don’t Be Left in the Dark!

Last month’s black out left many of us scrambling around the house in the dark looking for candles, propane, extra blankets and a number of other supplies that we all should have on hand. Some people were surprised to learn that they would have to go through their home insurance for issues one would understandably assume would be taken care of by hydro. Insurance limitations would, no doubt, compound the problem.

From time to time, we have people who come into our office unfamiliar with the terms of their own individual or company insurance coverage. Any number of levels of coverage can be purchased through an insurance company so, there are literally thousands of plans with their own varying limitations.  Even though dental insurance may seem confusing, it is important to understand the benefits you are entitled to in order to eliminate disappointment if payment for necessary treatment is only partially covered or not covered at all.

InsuranceIf you find yourself in the dark about your insurance coverage, give us a call today. We can call your insurer, and if they permit the disclosure of  benefit information to us, then we can get a general overview of the terms of your policy.

We believe that you deserve to receive the maximum reimbursement to which you are entitled to under the terms of the policy that you pay premiums for and will work diligently to make this happen as quickly as possible.

At Your Smile Dental Care we provide the following assistance with respect to dental insurance:

1. Verifying your coverage by calling your dental benefit provider
2. Submitting cost estimates to your insurer before treatment begins
3. Explaining your benefit limitations
4. Tracking estimates of yearly benefit allowance
5. Filing and billing of your dental claim (assignment of benefits) to your insurer for treatment services provided *
6. Protecting your oral health by promoting treatment options that best suit your individual needs.

We consider our relationship with you to be of primary importance and will always make our recommendations to you based on what we believe is the very best treatment for you regardless of your insurance coverage. As professionals, we are obligated to treat you and not your insurance plan. As a concerned partner in your dental well-being, we do not want to compromise your care based on restraints placed by an insurance company. Our goal is to help you achieve and maintain optimal dental care, while understanding that your level of coverage is often a key factor in your decision making process.

Most dental offices will have a policy regarding the use of dental insurance in their practice. *You can find ours here:

We believe that prevention is still the best treatment, however, emergencies do happen. Nobody likes unexpected surprises during a difficult time, and although dental plans are a valuable benefit to help offset some of the costs associated with your individual dental care, knowing what your plan covers before your dental appointment will help you prepare for your portion of the costs.

At Your Smile Dental Care we are a family-oriented dental office and, as such, treat our patients as we would our own family members. Although your benefits are a contract between you and your insurer, with your cooperation, we try our best to make the process as problem-free as possible. For more information about dental insurance in Ontario we recommend that you visit the Ontario Dental Association’s website:
